Sobruary Challenge
Its hard to believe February is just around the corner. Statistics show over 50% of Amercans will have given up on their New years resolutions by the end of January and a whopping 80% by the end of February. The problem with resolutions is, while well intentioned, people often times are too ambitious with their goals for it to be a sustainable. They dont have the proper planning or support systems in place and there is so much pressure to start on the arbritrary date of January 1st. If we are following the cycles of nature, March is a much more appropriate time for cleansing and birthing a new version of ourselves. However, february is a great time to start warming up our self accountability muscles.
I invite you, February 1st, to refresh your intentions to create sustainable positive changes in your life. The sobruary challenge isnt just about sobriety from alcohol and other substances, although thats a great place to start if you feel inspired. Click here for a link to my article about the dark side of alcohol. The sobrurary challenge is about taking an honest look at your daily habits that arent serving you and swapping them out with healthier patterns. This could mean less time on social media and more time reading or journaling. Less time on the couch or and more time doing yoga or exploing nature. Swapping out junk food with home cooked meals or sugary treats for smoothies. It could mean having better boundaries and learning to say no to people pleasing. Whatever it looks like for you, keep it simple all your doing is making small sustainable shifts in your daily choices that hopefully youll want to take with you into March and the rest of the year.
Theres no prize for this challenge other than deepening your relationship with yourself and improving the quality of your life. While getting an accountability partner, having community support or beng motivated by being a better human for your family is helpful. At the end of the day only you can hold yourself accountable. Realistically, it takes longer than a month to build the new neural pathways and synapses that will make these new behaviors automatic. However, It only takes two weeks of consistency to notice a change in your mental health, energy levels and other positive effects of the changes youre making. Remember, it doesnt have to be perfect, you are human! Hopefully these noticable shifts in the way you feel will add fuel to the fire of inspiration in continuing the change or implementing more.
